Not only is it the first day of the New Year in Korea, but it is also Super Junior's Sungmin's birthday!
Siwon tweeted early into the New Year with a happy birthday message to his fellow member, stating,“Happy birthday Sungmin my brotha!”, and “also enjoy your birthday and first day of 2012 go Sungmin!!!”
He also revealed two photos: the first being one in which Sungmin is seen smiling happily into the camera with his birthday cake, while the second showed Sungmin covered with cake from his head all the way down to his shoulders.
Fans commented, “Oh no! Poor Sungmin! Hahaha“, “Happy Birthday to you Sungmin oppa!“, and “Happy New Year to you both!”.

The ‘2011 KBS Music Festival‘ hosted a bevy of strong performances from many of this year’s top artists.
As reported earlier, the festival did not see performances from YG Entertainment and C-JeS Entertainment artists due to scheduling conflicts and other tensions. That being said, fans still got to see great stages from the likes of SUPER JUNIOR, SNSD, IU, INFINITE, Lee Seung Gi, and more.
In the midst of numerous year-end events and programs, one that, perhaps, shines the brightest is the ’2011 SBS Gayo Daejun’.
The Hallyu-themed show has brought out a star-studded line-up of many of the biggest names and the most anticipated rookies in K-Pop including TVXQ, 2PM, Super Junior, 2NE1, Girls’ Generation, Wonder Girls, KARA, B2ST, CNBLUE, F.T. Island, Brown Eyed Girls, T-ara, miss A, f(x), Lee Seung Gi, IU, Kim Hyun Joong, After School, MBLAQ, INFINITE, Dal Shabet, Boyfriend, A Pink, B1A4, SECRET, 4minute, G.NA, SISTAR, Davichi, K.Will, TEEN TOP, Rainbow, U-Kiss, SHINee’s Taemin & Jonghyun, Zelo & Bang Yong Guk, EXO, and Pledis Boys. Super Junior expresses frustration over ‘SBS Gayo Daejun’ pre-recording mishap
On December 29th, fans were disappointed to discover that SM Entertainment had not informed fans prior to the pre-recording for the ‘2011 SBS Gayo Daejun‘, leaving Super Junior without a crowd support in the audience of such a prestigious event.
The members immediately took to their Twitters to apologize for the incident and also let out a bit of steam over the mishandling of the event.
Leader Leeteuk expressed, “This isn’t right… They should’ve put up notices beforehand, no? I’ll apologize on behalf of them~”Donghae also quickly apologized, “Sorry, ELF…”
Eunhyuk frustratingly tweeted, “This year-end doesn’t mean anything without our ELF… so frustrated!!!!!! Eat food, eat food twice.” The sentiment was retweeted by Leeteuk, Donghae, and Siwon, who added, “Eat thrice~^^ kekeke,” and “Keep eating.”
Siwon wrote in English, “Any way.. you look at it, there isn’t a group more hard-working than us, and there can’t be a group more pitiful than us..damn it! if we’ve done anything wrong, it must be the crime of working too hard, don’t you agree everyone? well just forget it.. what a long day..”

Asia’s hottest idol group Super Junior set a new record, becoming the top artist to sell the most albums over the past 3 years.
The ‘2011 Singer Awards‘ reflects the artists that sold the most albums according to sales data from Hanteo, and Super Junior sold 355,900 albums between January 1st, 2011 and December 27th, 2011.
Super Junior’s cumulative album sales (of all 32 singles and albums they’ve released to date) for 2011 amounted to 350,000 units. This was the highest number of sales since the ‘Singer Awards’ were established back in 2009. Seo Taiji boasted 248,800 units in 2009, while Girls’ Generation set a new record last year by moving 309,400 units.
Super Junior’s full length album ‘Mr.Simple‘ was a big factor that contributed to their impressive sales numbers. ‘Mr Simple’ Type A alone sold 199,300 copies while Type B sold 53,500 copies and their repackaged album sold 73,900 copies. All together, their fifth album alone sold 326,800 units. Behind Super Junior was TVXQ who sold 230,000 units and Girls’ Generation who sold 226,700 units.
The two names that stood out on the list, however, were INFINITE and IU. The boys of INFINITE came in at 7th place selling 124,100 units while singer IU was the only soloist to break the top 10, selling 92,900 units at #9.
Hanteo charts calculates the data by collecting 85% of their information from nationwide music sales and 15% from accumulations in their own information database along with national sale estimates.
Super Junior's Choi Siwon recently revealed his extremely close relationship with fellow member Kyuhyun.
Choi Siwon shared the above photo via his Twitter page on the 27th and wrote, “#nowplaying Sung Si Kyung – Memory.. keke”
The photo was a collection of smaller photos in which the two display ‘skinship’ with hugs and even kisses on the cheek, hilariously making the two seem like a loving couple.

2NE1 (Korean: 투애니원; Tuaeniwon) is a popular South Korean hip-hop/pop girl group formed by YG Entertainment in 2009. The band consists of four members: CL, Dara, Bom and Minzy. The name 2NE1 combines the phrases "21st century" and "new evolution", and is pronounced "twenty-one" or "To Anyone".
They first appeared in "Lollipop", a commercial campaign with Big Bang for LG Electronics, and their debut single "Fire" was released on May 6, 2009. Since then, the group has released two extended plays, 2NE1 and 2NE1 2nd Mini Album, and one studio album, To Anyone.

On the latest episode of MBC's ‘We Got Married’, the show’s couples reenacted the Pepero kissing game that Eunjung and Lee Jang Woo once played.
The three couples, Park So Hyun – Kim Won Joon, Eunjung – Lee Jang Woo, and Kang Sora – Leeteuk, gathered together to watch the various scenes from ‘The Best 1 Minute Picked By the Production Staff’.
Eunjung and Jangwoo’s best 1 minute was revealed to be none other than their kissing scene from their Pepero game, and other jealous couples requested that they be allowed to re-enact the scene.
Jang Woo stood up without hesitation, and confidently stated that he would show everyone how it’s done, much to the surprise of Eunjung.
Before the couple launched into the game, Jang Woo tried to make Eunjung feel more at ease by telling her, “Recreate the mood from that last time.”
When the two were almost done eating the Pepero stick, Jang Woo turned his head towards the camera as if to block Eunjung from view.
Following them were Park So Hyun and Kim Won Joon, who succeeded in a kiss as Won Joon grabbed So Hyun’s face and brought his lips to meet hers. After succeeding, Kim Won Joon made everyone laugh as he expressed outloud, “MBC, thank you,” unable to hide his happiness.
The last couple to follow was Kang Sora and Leeteuk, who are now 3 months into their “marriage”. Before the game began, Leeteuk showcased his manly leadership as he told Sora to stay still as he’ll do the rest.
However. just right before Leeteuk could reach Sora’s lips, the nervous Sora cut off the Pepero, ending the game and leaving Leeteuk with a dumbfounded and wishful expression on his face.

SM ENTERTAINMENT’S UNFAIR TREATMENT TOWARDS SUPER JUNIOR REMAINS A HOT TOPIC Controversy regarding the unfair treatment Super Junior is receiving from SM Entertainment (especially in comparison to SNSD) is still brewing hot on Korean boards. Recently, a post on Nate Pann received about 205,069 views and made it into the top 10 most viewed/commented post of the week. It received about 2,125 recommendations and 1,227 comments as of October 16th. The full translation of the post is as follows: – 1. Let’s begin with what Lee Soo Man himself thinks of Super Junior (this is taken directly from an interview he had):

So I guess that’s proof that they don’t care what happens to us and that they’re only supporting the group out of sympathy. To SM, it doesn’t matter whether Super Junior does well or not. I feel so bad for our oppas, they have nothing but their fans to trust in a company like that. It’s always the fans that are promoting their albums for them.
2. SM Entertainment changed Super Junior’s solo concert to an SM Entertainment concert.
Europe had been sending many requests for a Super Junior concert. Right when they were preparing one, SM changed it to a full out SM Entertainment concert. Peru voted Super Junior as the #1 artist they wanted to see there. Not SM Town, but Super Junior. They had petitioned for a Super Junior concert for some time now.
3. Album quality
SNSD’s album is made out of iron – obviously a lot of work was gone into it. But as for us? Ever since our second album, we’ve been getting nothing but pieces of paper. But it gets better. I heard that SNSD’s iron album is only $19. Our pieces of paper was $20. Since when did paper become so expensive in Korea? SM never does anything for us. At first, we were just upset and shocked, but now we’re so used to it. Don’t you think this is too much, though?

Heechul: “I sometimes mention how we’ve been ranking first in Taiwan for 38 weeks and how Bonamana has been topping for 18 weeks and stuff like that when talking to people in our company and ask why they don’t make articles for us. I asked them to put out a few headlines like other companies do so that people just don’t think we’re doing nothing. When I say things like that, however, they’ll say back, ‘It’s because we think that it’s definite that Super Junior achieves those things. I don’t think it’s necessary to make a big deal out of things like that.’ So I’ll always just say back, ‘Yeah, you’re all talk.’”
